If your idea isn’t listed here, no worries—reach out to us, and we’ll let you know how we can help.

Now, back to the good stuff. With years of experience designing and launching financial solutions, we’ve learned what it takes to create Fintech products that deliver real value to users. Let’s dive into the key features that can set your product apart.

Key Features to Set Your Fintech Design Apart

What features should your Fintech app have to deliver unmatched value to customers and maximize revenue? While the specifics depend on your product type, here are some game-changing functionalities—pulled straight from Lazarev’s experience—that could take your Fintech solution to the next level.

AI: The Must-Have of Modern Fintech

If you’re not integrating AI into your product, you’re already behind. AI isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the backbone of smarter, faster, and more personalized financial services. Here’s how you can use it (examples taken from our projects):

  • Predictive Insights for Investment and Trading
AI algorithms can analyze market data in real-time, helping users make informed decisions on where to invest or trade. Think of it as giving your customers a crystal ball for financial markets.
  • AI-Powered Voice Assistants for Digital Banks
Equip your digital bank with an AI voice assistant using natural language processing (NLP). Whether answering common questions or escalating complex issues to a support team, this feature saves time and enhances user satisfaction.

At Lazarev, we’ve been at the forefront of AI Fintech user experience since 2018. Our latest project was for Rhea by Accern — a sophisticated tool for financial researchers, VC investors, and others, leveraging the capabilities of a pre-trained AI model.

The solution that emerged is a hybrid interface that combines a prompt-driven AI functionality with dynamic widgets, graphics, offering a seamless research-to-report workflow with a handy split screen mode.

Gamification: Fun UX Design for Fintech

No matter what type of Fintech platform you’re building, gamification can elevate the user experience. It’s about turning financial management into something engaging, rewarding, and even fun. Here’s how to make it happen:

Reward Systems That Motivate

Recognize and reward users for achieving milestones or completing specific tasks. For instance, offer points, badges, or even tangible perks that users can later redeem. Think GPay’s rewards program, which hands out everything from cashbacks to coupons for each transaction. Or take inspiration from Kaizo, where managers can swap earned points for merchandise in a built-in store.

Visual Motivation with Progress Bars

Progress bars aren’t just for gaming—they’re a powerful motivator in Fintech too. Let users see their journey toward financial goals at a glance. Whether it’s tracking savings, investments, or transactions, these visual cues make achievements feel tangible and inspire continued use.

Leaderboards to Spark Friendly Competition

Competition fuels engagement. Add a leaderboard where users can compete with friends or family. Whether it’s about who’s saved more, invested smarter, or earned more from trades, leaderboards turn financial management into a shared experience.

Challenges That Drive Action

Think of Fintech gamification as quests in a video game. Platforms like Stash already challenge users to invest more, explore new opportunities, or hit portfolio milestones. By completing these tasks, users unlock bonuses or incentives, making progress feel like an adventure.

The Lazarev Take: Adding Playfulness to Payoneer

When Lazarev started to work on Payoneer’s UX, we set out to underscore the importance of a user-centric UX for Payoneer and conceive a new UX/UI design that would be advantageous for its business.

Our designers initiated this project with an extensive discovery session and brainstorming workshops, which guided them in introducing valuable features for Payoneer and charting the course for an improved UX.

- Streamlining User Interaction

The home screen of fintech apps is the central hub for everything users needed—card balances, transaction history, and key financial tools—all just a click away.

- Introducing an Interactive Wallet

To add a playful twist , we conceptualized a wallet feature where credit cards would dynamically change colors based on their currency. This subtle gamified touch brought an element of fun to an otherwise static interface.

"Our goal was simple: make the app more user-friendly so people could manage their finances effortlessly." – Danylo Dubrovskyi

An interactive wallet design for FinTech app

Gamification isn’t just about bells and whistles—it’s about making financial platforms and fintech apps more engaging, intuitive, and rewarding. Whether it’s interactive wallets, challenges, or leaderboards, these features not only boost customer satisfaction but also encourage loyalty and increased usage.

Data-Personalization: Custom Fintech Product Design

Personalization in finance industry isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a strategy that makes your financial ux design feel like it was created exclusively for your users. Think customizable dashboards, widgets that adapt to individual user preferences, or investment recommendations tailored to user behavior.

For example, in our work with Payoneer, the Lazarev team introduced a smarter currency exchange calculator. Instead of waiting for users to hit “convert,” the tool provided real-time results during data entry, making transactions faster, clearer, and more intuitive. It’s a small tweak, but one that elevates the user experience and delivers true personalization.

Data personalisation for financial app

Another example of data personalization is our work with Admetrics—a sophisticated tool for e-commerce teams designed to optimize budget allocation and enable decision-making at lightning speed.

The dashboard features fully customizable widgets, allowing teams to tailor their view by adding widgets that display the specific financial data they need to monitor. This flexibility ensures users can focus on what matters most to their unique goals.

This is also a great feature that addresses user expectations within fintech apps.

Yet another example is our Blockbeat project — an ultimate crypto news aggregator and terminal that provides traders with the necessary insights and tools to confidently navigate the dynamic crypto market.

To manage the substantial flow of news about the stock market within users’ feeds, we implemented advanced filtering that offer complete personalization. This helps the target audience to view only what is necessary. Similarly, with watchlists, traders can configure them based on their preferences.

These strategically created features along with user centric approach ensured fluid customer journeys and smooth financial operations.

One-Stop for Everything

Fintech isn’t about cramming endless features into your platform—it’s about building functionality that truly serves and even exceeds customer expectations. The goal? Create a hub that solves real-world problems, all in one place.

Take PrivatBank, a Ukrainian digital bank that goes beyond basic banking to offer entrepreneurs features like automated financial reports and charity exchange options. Or consider Monobank, which lets users buy a phone or pay for concert tickets directly in-app. These examples demonstrate how “less is more” when it comes to fintech—fewer steps, more convenience, better value.

Educational Content That Engages

Empowering your users through knowledge is always a win. Educational content isn’t just an add-on—it’s a way to build trust and loyalty while helping your customers make informed financial decisions.

Turn dry financial lessons into interactive experiences. Platforms like Wally use quizzes and exercises to teach users about budgeting, saving, and managing credit. Imagine quizzes on your app that turn complex investing techniques into simple, actionable insights. Or bite-sized interactive lessons tailored to each user’s goals.

With features like these, your platform doesn’t just become a tool—it becomes a trusted guide in your customers’ financial journey.

Want to create fintech experiences that matter? Let’s make it happen.

Core Principles of Fintech UX Design

Fintech UX design that is doomed to grow is built on several core principles that ensure user-friendly and trustworthy financial management tools, banking apps or whatever.

Simplicity is a buzzword in design, but in fintech, it’s non-negotiable. Interfaces must guide users through intricate financial tasks with clarity and ease. While many proclaim that good design is invisible, we’d rather stop and showcase how this principle truly comes to life in our work.

Take the Vessel Finance Calculator, a B2B tool crafted to assess the value of vessel acquisitions for businesses. We had a mission to streamline confusing navigation and create a user experience that’s as intuitive as it is effective.

Understanding that elder investors form a significant portion of the platform’s user base, we introduced tooltips—an unobtrusive yet impactful feature—to demystify the financial figures displayed. These enhancements empower users to make informed decisions with confidence, transforming a complex process into one of clarity and simplicity.

So clarity! Clarity is equally important, as clear and concise language helps users understand intricate financial concepts without feeling overwhelmed. Security, however, is the bedrock of fintech UX design. Users need to feel confident that their sensitive financial information is protected at all times.

By prioritizing these principles, fintech companies can build apps that not only meet user needs but also foster trust and reliability in their financial management solutions.

Other things to consider when doing fintech UX design.

When designing for fintech, there’s no room for guesswork. From crafting a realistic product roadmap to ensuring the design aligns with development capabilities, it’s a balancing act. But let’s focus on the UX fundamentals for Fintech design—things you’ve likely heard before but can’t afford to overlook.

Building Trust at Every Click

In fintech, trust isn’t optional—it’s your cornerstone. Every element, from intuitive onboarding to crystal-clear transaction feedback, needs to reassure users they’re in safe hands. Details like secure visual cues, precise error messages, and smooth interactions can make or break user confidence.

Need help building trust into your design? Lazarev has been perfecting fintech UX since 2018.

Streamlined Journeys for Complex Processes

Finance can feel intimidating—your UX shouldn’t. Whether users are transferring funds, trading stocks, or handling payments, the goal is the same: simplicity. A seamless, intuitive flow can turn multi-step actions into two-click solutions.

Take debt collection, for instance. Our team once reimagined workflows to reduce friction, delivering processes that are not just functional but delightful to use.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

Money knows no boundaries, and neither should your design. Prioritize accessibility to ensure your product is welcoming to users of all abilities and ages. From scalable fonts to voice navigation, inclusivity isn’t just good ethics—it’s good business.

The more people your platform can serve, the greater your impact.

What Fintech Apps Should You Explore During User Research?

Every great fintech product begins with discovery. It’s the phase where ideas take shape, fueled by user insights, competitor analysis, and creative conceptualization. But let’s focus on competitor research—an essential step in understanding the landscape and uncovering opportunities to innovate. Below are standout fintech solutions we’ve worked on, along with insights into the competitors we analyzed to design their UX.

Rhea by Accern

A smart AI assistant designed for versatility across industries, Rhea helps users research, summarize, alert, and make decisions faster. Its capabilities include answering data-related queries, integrating datasets for visualizations, generating reports, and delivering alerts—all in one customizable platform.

For Rhea’s design, we explored competitors far beyond fintech. Our research included tools like Merlin AI, Raycast, Personal AI, and Perplexity to understand how AI assistants are built across industries. This cross-sector approach inspired a hybrid interface that merges prompt-driven functionality with dynamic widgets for seamless workflows.

Tratta

A platform redefining bill payments and consumer engagement, Tratta positions itself as a bridge for building trust between companies and customers.

To design for Tratta, we analyzed payment giants like Stripe, Fondy, Shopify, and Braintree. Each offered unique insights into streamlining transactions, ensuring compliance, and enhancing user trust—all critical in fintech UX.

Blockbeat

An AI-powered crypto trading terminal designed to keep traders ahead of the curve, Blockbeat delivers real-time, distilled data for quick and informed decision-making.

Our competitor research for Blockbeat spanned both crypto-specific platforms and broader financial tools. The focus was on creating an interface that simplifies complexity while offering advanced analytics—a balance traders value in fast-paced markets.

When conducting your own user research, don’t limit yourself to direct competitors. Exploring indirect players and adjacent industries can spark fresh ideas and uncover user needs your competitors haven’t addressed. If you’re building a wealth management app, take a look at personal finance apps, platforms to transfer money, different banking apps, and more. It’s about looking beyond the obvious—and that’s where innovation lives.

Cracking the Code of Fintech UX Design

At its heart, great fintech UX starts with understanding the user. From banking apps to wealth management platforms, the goal remains the same: to deliver an experience that’s seamless, secure, and engaging. How to do that? Well, through comprehensive research, we uncover not just what users do but why they do it—their preferences, pain points, and behaviors. This data forms the backbone of product strategy and UX design.

Remember, your Fintech product isn’t just a service; it’s a solution. Build it with features that solve real problems, inspire trust, and keep users coming back. At Lazarev, we don’t just design fintech user experiences. We create experiences that feel secure, accessible, and tailored to your audience’s needs. Contact us today for professional help.

Fintech UX Design Trends

The most recent trends are already discussed above and even explained through real case projects. Artificial intelligence stands out as a game-changer, powering smarter insights and personalized experiences. Blockchain technology takes security and transparency to the next level, redefining trust in financial transactions. Meanwhile, biometric authentication—think fingerprint and facial recognition—adds an effortless yet secure touch to user access.

These trends are more than buzzwords; they’re the building blocks of modern fintech experiences. But remember, innovation never pauses—staying ahead means keeping a constant pulse on evolving tech.
